Transformative breathwork!
Østbanegade 15 st tv, 2100 København Ø | Mosevej 20B, 8240 Risskov
Danish
We all breathe from the moment we come into the world, and when we let go of the last breath, this is also where we leave this world!
But are we really aware of how important the breath is for our well-being, for our well-being and not least our presence with ourselves?
During my more than 20 years as a body therapist, I have seen how people can survive, a lifetime, without being aware of the importance of breathing, in order to feel the need, desire, passion, presence, just to name a few of the words, and last but not least, the love for oneself and others. The environment and heritage of course have a big “impact” on how we learn to breathe. In my experience, a great many people are actually not, or have been aware, that a balanced breath is one of the shortest paths to greater well-being.
Transformative = transforming oneself from one place to another place. Breathwork = covers up the term breathing, and you can do this in many different ways. For it to be considered transformational, it is because you get the opportunity to look behind our human control center, if you dare to let go of control, because underneath that state lies the unconscious and our subconscious.
You have probably heard the concept of the body remembering, and it will often be what we refer to, namely the experiences, trauma, anxiety, fear, anger, stress, etc. that lie in the subconscious. But to get down and feel it, we're going to have to get past our control center, and here the transformational breath is a fantastic tool. When we over-oxygenate the body, then briefly, losing the ability to control the things around us, you thus gain easier and direct access to our subconscious.
It's not an “easy” journey, and you're not going to get a “free ride” because it's hard work. But I can still say as much that it is a beautiful journey into the state and ability of the body, since you activate the body's own DMT which is also a known substance that one uses in psychedelic trips, here you “simply” use the body's own natural signaling substance.
**Are there different approaches to the Transforming Breathwork? **
Yes it is there. You may have heard of Wim Hof, the Iceman, who has gone to great lengths to show the world what we can do with our breath. He calls it the Wim Hof method. I myself have been inspired by Breathmaster in Bali, and you can also find great inspiration from Dan Brulé's Breath mastery or Stanislav Grof, a Czech psychiatrist who was one of the first therapists to use breathing consciously during therapy, and has created a great breeding ground for the great knowledge that exists today about the importance of our breathing.
Another great inspiration is the author James Nestor who has written the book BREATH! Which is a great inspiration, where he describes several ways to breathe and how important in everyday life it is to breathe through the nose.
Therefore, the different approaches to a transformative breathwork session can vary as we all do it differently, yet there are common features which can include a focus on deep, conscious breaths, increased oxygen intake, and the release of tension and blockages in the body. Many people who practice transformative breathwork describe about experiences of deep relaxation, renewed energy, heightened awareness, and sometimes transformative insights.
